Body Confidence & Stress in Teens: What 84 Teens Told Us

Have you ever wondered whether other teenagers feel the same way you do — about your body, your stress, and your mental health? As part of Mindful Living, in June, 2026, we published a completely anonymous survey on stress and self-perception (Relationships and Stress; https://forms.gle/KXV4JP7tEinhqhJw8).

95 people responded overall, of whom 84 identified as teenagers — and their answers were honest and eye-opening.

What Is Stressing Teens Out the Most?

Academic and work pressure topped the list, with 38% of teen respondents naming school and grades as their biggest stressor. The future came in second at 21%, followed by appearance and body image at 17%, and social media at 12%. Stress does not come from one place — and for many teens, these sources overlap daily.

Social Media and Self-Image

When asked how much social media affects how they feel about themselves, 61% rated the impact a 3 or higher out of 5. Only 18% said it had little to no effect. When body image is already a top stressor, social media quietly makes it harder to feel good in your own skin.

Do Teens Feel Supported?

This was the most eye-opening result. Around 33% of teen respondents rated their support level at a 1 or 2 out of 5 — meaning they largely feel alone when struggling. Only 27% felt consistently supported. That is a gap worth paying attention to.

How Do People Cope?

Listening to music was the most common coping method at 71%, followed by phone scrolling at 58%. Only 31% said they talk to someone. Most people are coping quietly — alone — rather than reaching out.

The Takeaway

High stress, social media pressure, body image concerns, and a lack of support are not just personal struggles — they are shared ones. You are not alone in feeling this way, and that is exactly why conversations like this matter.
